Our Favorite Spanish Books to Read at Bedtime
A short, honest shortlist for families building a little Spanish library at home. These are well-loved picture books — gentle enough for bedtime and forgiving enough for a parent who is still learning the language.
Bedtime is honestly one of the easiest places to sneak in Spanish. The routine is calm, kids are winding down, and a short picture book is the perfect length. You don't need to be fluent — you just need a good book and a few minutes.
Here are a few that families come back to again and again.
Papás Fuertes, Hijas Seguras
Robert Wolgemuth & Mary Kassian
This one is for dad-and-daughter reading. The message is warm and simple — a father telling his daughter she is safe, seen, and loved. It is a title many families return to night after night. The Spanish is beautiful without being overly complex, which makes it easy to read aloud even if you're still learning.
Best for: Ages 4–10 · Dad + daughter bedtime reading
Buenas Noches, Luna
Margaret Wise Brown (Spanish edition)
Goodnight Moon in Spanish. If you already know the English version, you'll be surprised how naturally you can read this one — the rhythm carries you through. It's a great first Spanish book for very young kids because the words are simple and repeat. Buenas noches, luna. Buenas noches, vaca saltando sobre la luna. Even a beginner can do this at bedtime without feeling lost.
Best for: Ages 1–5 · A true toddler classic
Lejos
Oliver Jeffers
Oliver Jeffers wrote this as a letter from a father to his newborn son — it's a guide to the world, full of wonder and humor. The Spanish edition (Lejos, translated fromHere We Are) is gorgeous. The illustrations do most of the work, and the text is poetic enough that even stumbling through it in Spanish feels intentional. A beautiful one for older kids and parents who want something that feels meaningful.
Best for: Ages 3–8 · A keepsake book worth reading slowly

You don't need all four of these. Start with one. Read it badly. Mispronounce words. Laugh with your kids. The goal isn't perfection — it's consistency. One Spanish book at bedtime, three or four nights a week, is more than enough to build something real over time.
And if your kids are ready to start learning Spanish more intentionally, our free printable Spanish bedtime stories are a great next step.
